Second Revolution in Cuba
The Cuban authorities have made public several economic and social reforms to encourage private initiative and to reduce the state role in economic life while, at the same time, continuing to prevent accumulation of private property. For example, Cubans have the right to sell and buy cars and homes but they are not allowed to resell them for profit.
Changes include: reducing: the number of employees of the public service, grants and expenditures. Greater openness is being provided to the private sector including the ability for small businesses to hire their own employees. Raul Castro has, however, ruled out any change to the political system. Revolutionary slogans and symbols of the heroes of the Cuban Revolution are still present in Cuban life. But for how long?
